Elon University DJs electrify college party scene

Many parties nowadays come with pre-made playlists blasting through JBL speakers. However, there’s a new wave of musical entertainment on the rise that has swept through Elon’s campus — DJs.

DJs, also known as disc jockeys, are performers who play and mix pre-made music live.

Shawn Kelly, an Elon senior and computer science major, discovered DJing during his sophomore year of college. Performing under the name djskelly, he used his musical background and computer science knowledge to teach himself how to mix music.

Since beginning his journey into making music and performing, Kelly has amassed over 24,000 followers on Instagram, which he attributes to understanding the business side of the music industry.

“That’s what I’ve learned — to really harvest the business side of it and the marketing side and promoting side,” Kelly said. “I’ve taken almost half of what I’ve made and put it into promoting myself — put it into targeting advertising and marketing.”

According to Kelly, he is considered a promo DJ, which means he is required to bring an

Palestinian Christians spot silver lining to Gaza war

Gaza (MNN) — Today, we begin a special two-part look at the Israel-Hamas war from a Christian perspective.

Uncharted Ministries partners with believers on both sides of the conflict. Co-founder Tom Doyle says Palestinian Christians are suffering in Gaza. “They’re just not getting the food; maybe little bits, but hardly anything,” Doyle says.

“Even though Israel is sending the trucks in, Hamas is taking them over, and sadly, they’re (Hamas) getting all the food. People aren’t getting much.”

The UN says famine is “imminent” in Gaza, where over one million people face “catastrophic hunger.” Several countries send food into the Strip through alternative methods, including airdrops and sea routes.

“Gaza is very tightly confined. Pray that they (Palestinian Christians) survive; that they get food [and] water,” Doyle says.

“Uncharted has been privileged to send in both through some of the ministries we work with, and thankfully, it did get in.”

Believers see a silver lining to the war raging around them. “The terrorist groups that have caused so many problems for their own people [are leading] Muslims to look elsewhere,” Doyle notes.

“There is a new openness to the Gospel [among] Muslims who are tired of the wars, they’re tired

Man Ignores Naysayers to Revive Tiny Sparrow with CPR – Watch the Moment his Patience is Rewarded

Submitted by Costakis Constantinou

In a heartwarming video, a 67-year-old actor from Cyprus became determined to use his CPR expertise to save a tiny, helpless sparrow.

The avian creature was found unconscious following an “unfortunate pool mishap”.

In the background of the video, you can hear a chorus of teasing and snickering, with voices urging him to dispose of the seemingly lifeless bird—but Costakis Constantinou remains undeterred.

“Nobody thought this was possible or even worth trying, however, he stayed focused and patiently continued,” his son Rolandos told GNN.

With unwavering determination, he persistently, applied his life-saving skills until, against all odds, the sparrow gradually regained consciousness, fluttering back to life.

“I can say with confidence that he was very, very happy, relieved, and satisfied when the little sparrow opened its eyes and flew away.”

When Rolandos rewatched the video again (see below), he got emotional and telephoned his father to tell him how proud he was.

“In the past he saved two people from heart attack by applying CPR. For some reason my father is at the right place at the right time.”

Osakis School Board approves internet, network services agreements – Alexandria Echo Press

OSAKIS — The Osakis School Board approved both an internet agreement and a network services agreement with the Eastern Central Minnesota Educational Cable Cooperative.

The approvals were made at the board’s regular meeting, which took place Monday, March 11.

The district currently uses the Central Minnesota Educational Telecom Service, or CMETS, for internet and some network service support, but CMETS is dissolving.

The internet agreement with ECMECC is estimated at $4,502, while the network services agreement is estimated at $8,105.

Marc Johnson, executive director of ECMECC, said some areas of focus that were part of CMETS are also a part of ECMECC. One of these is the Central Minnesota Wide Area Network, an internet services program.

“It’s existed for 20 years,” Johnson said via Skype. “ECMECC has always participated in it, but we haven’t always been the manager of that service. We are now the manager of that service, and it serves over 60 school districts and 46 library sites through a large swathe of central Minnesota.”

Johnson explained, “It fully qualifies any of the districts for state telecommunications equity aid, which you received because you were part of CMETS before. The only way to get that aid is to

In the aftermath of the 2021 storms the Red Hill Fire Brigade worked with local agencies and residents to create the Hill and Ridge Emergency Network.

The Network has been meeting regularly since October 2023 and brings together community groups, business owners, educators, agency representatives and local emergency services to improve community knowledge and skills to prepare and respond to disaster events.

Red Hill Fire Brigade Captain Sam Norris said the area was impacted by a major storm in October 2021.

“We lost power and all communications for between four and seven days. People couldn’t call Triple Zero and so the brigade and all the locals banded together,” Samuel said.

“We cleared roads and made access for emergency services to get into Red Hill. The community did a great job but there were gaps in the initial response that we thought this network could fix. That was the trigger point for it.

“In the last event, we had a woman who just had twins who were under a week old and she was stuck in her house for five days with no power. We also had a few elderly

PainChek specializes in building tools, medical devices, in the form of an app that actually provides a pain assessment technology to assess pain for those vulnerable people and therefore to improve the medication for them

Senate sends surrogacy bills to Whitmer for signature

Bills on their way to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s desk would repeal Michigan’s ban on surrogate parenting contracts.

Michigan was among the vanguard of states to outlaw paid surrogacy agreements with a 1988 law and is now among a small group of states that continue to do so.

Sen. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit), one of the bill sponsors, said Michigan should join the majority of states that allow and regulate surrogacy contracts.

Senator Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit) is one of the sponsors of legislation to legalize surrogacy contracts in Michigan.

“It’s time to update our laws in Michigan and bring them in line with modern technology and practices as well as our compassion for families of all types, ensuring that Michiganders can fulfill their dreams of parenthood,” she said. “These bills not only safeguard the rights of biological parents but also prioritize the protection and the reproductive freedom of those surrogates.”

The bills allow for compensation for carrying a pregnancy and expenses such as insurance and housing. Surrogates would have to be at least 21 years old and undergo a mental health screening.

The bills were adopted on mostly party-line voters with Democrats in support and

Fox News Remains Most-Watched News Network

This is TVNewser’s basic cable network ranker and cable news report for the week of March 11, 2024.

It was a return to Earth for the cable news networks as the huge numbers they enjoyed during the busy news week of March 4, which featured two political-heavy events were nowhere to be found. That week contained coverage of Super Tuesday and President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union address. Fox News, as usual, led the cable news networks, but each of them including MSNBC and CNN, saw double-digit drops in both measured categories (total viewers and Adults 25-54) and in both dayparts (primetime and total day).

NETWORKS:

Nielsen live plus same-day data for the week of March 11 saw FNC average 2,056 million total viewers and 222,000 A25-54 viewers during primetime. The network was down in total viewers by -21% and -37% in the A25-54 demo, relative to the week prior (week beginning March 4).

In total day viewing, Fox News averaged 1,256 million total viewers and 147,000 A25-54 viewers. This translated to declines of -14% in total viewers and -23% in A25-54 from what Fox News averaged in those measurements the week prior.

Among all basic cable networks,
